Heavy Truck & Bus

The second edition of  the ISO 26262 standard covers medium and heavy-duty trucks in any on-road application. kVA by UL can support truck and bus OEMs, suppliers, and body-builders with functional safety process and expertise. Some of kVA by UL’s projects in this area include:

  • Electric Bus Item Definition, HARA, Functional Safety Concept – kVA by UL led the development of several major ISO 26262 work products for a large bus manufacturer. All part 3 work products were developed, and several conflicting functions were arbitrated to enable correct flow-down into detailed requirements
  • Heavy-Truck Autonomous Platooning – kVA by UL served as safety manager for a major heavy-vehicle OEM developing autonomous driving technology on a US Department of Defense program.
  • Brake System Safety Analysis – kVA by UL performed FTA and FMEA to verify and support safety requirements definition for full-authority brake-by-wire systems at a major tier-1 supplier of braking systems and associated controls for heavy truck platforms.
  • Heavy-Duty Transmission Software Workshops – kVA by UL led a series of workshops for a major heavy-duty tier-1 transmission supplier. Safety monitoring concept and software architecture were developed and updated to be consistent with ISO 26262.
