CONSULTING ENGINEER

ENGINEERING INTERN

 

 

Consulting Engineer

 

Position Summary

kVA is seeking an engineer to support multiple technical consulting projects in the automotive industry. This position can be located in our Greenville, SC home office or in the Detroit, MI area. Specific project work will include support of automotive clients in implementing ISO 26262 processes for functional safety of electronic systems, diagnostic software development for major OEMs and suppliers, simulation of alternate fuel systems, and project management tasks for EVSE product development. New client development and marketing are also expected from all kVA employees. This is a contract-to-hire position beginning in mid-2012. 

Position Duties:

  • Support the development of products for automotive application with a particular focus on automotive electronics, power electronics, powertrain systems, and systems engineering
  • Consult and advise clients on the implementation of ISO 26262 within their organizations
  • Define, develop, and advise on new architectures and detailed designs for emerging powertrain systems
  • Perform simulation and calculation on various technical topics related to automotive products
  • Develop new clients and new consulting projects, using the strengths of kVA and own knowledge of automotive engineering best practices

Candidate Requirements:

  • The preferred candidate will have an advanced degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. Related fields such as mechanical engineering may be suitable in combination with substantial electronic systems experience. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree may be suitable given the right degree of experience
  • The preferred candidate has experience in engineering software and tools for embedded control environments, including Matlab, Simulink, dSpace, LabView, CANAPE, HIL/SIL test environments, and related toolsets
  • The preferred candidate will have automotive experience in systems engineering toolsets such as FMEA, FMEDA, fault tree analysis, etc.
  • Test and validation experience is preferred but not required. Various topics are of interest including automotive emissions, EPA compliance, ISO- and TS- certification experience, OBD, and EMI/RFI
  • High self-motivation, responsibility, and flexibility are required qualities of any candidate. The position requires progress on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills are required. Candidates must be comfortable working face-to-face with clients on new and challenging tasks
  • Candidates must be able  to work effectively and efficiency in new environments, including work-from-home activity and some travel to client sites
  • Knowledge in regulatory compliance (e.g., EPA standards, CARB requirements, Automotive fuel economy standards, ISO quality and safety standards, etc.) is helpful. The ideal candidate will show ability to apply standards to real-world products and deliver tangible benefits to clients

Engineering Intern

Position Summary

kVA is seeking an engineering intern to support multiple projects from our Greenville, SC location. Specific tasks will include development of training modules and toolsets for use in automotive functional safety applications. Other projects may include analysis of systems for OEM and supplier customers, project management tasks related to electric vehicle product development, simulation of alternate fuel systems, and client development in the automotive space. This is a paid contract position targeted for the summer of 2012, with potential to be extended for additional semesters and/or full-time employment. Graduate students who have earned a BS degree in EE or related disciplines, with automotive industry knowledge, are encouraged to apply. 

Position Duties:

  • Develop ISO 26262 materials and documentation, as well as related toolsets (e.g., for FMEA, FMEDA, fault tree, and related tools) to support automotive clients in product development settings
  • Support the development of products for automotive application with a particular focus on automotive electronics, power electronics, powertrain systems, and systems engineering
  • Support new client development in an automotive technical-consulting environment 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Automotive Interest and basic automotive knowledge is a must
  • Candidates holding a minimum of a BSEE degree are preferred. A bachelors degree in ME or related discipline may be suitable. The position is targeted toward a graduate student in an automotive engineering program
  • The preferred candidate would have experience in engineering software and tools for embedded control environments, including Matlab, Simulink, dSpace, LabView, CANape, HIL/SIL test environments, and related toolsets
  • High self motivation, responsibility, and flexibility are required qualities of any candidate. The position requires progress on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Candidate must work effectively and efficiency in a variety of work environments, including work-from-home activity and some travel to client sites
  • Knowledge in regulatory compliance (e.g., EPA standards, CARB requirements, automotive fuel-economy standards, ISO quality and safety standards, etc.) is helpful
